Among only three Universities from India to be listed in the subject of Chemistry
The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been listed twice in the subject-wise ranking of top universities in a survey conducted by the QS World University Rankings. As per this survey, UoH has been listed as one of the best universities to pursue higher studies in English Language and Literature, and Chemistry.
QS World University Rankings is a publication of university rankings, published annually by British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). As per QS, the world needs Universities and the core ambition of every university is to be more than just one thing, to be multidimensional. The QS World University Rankings by Subject are where some of these dimensions can be more ably perceived – if the global rankings are a wide angle lens, the subject rankings are a rack of synchronous telephotos – and they reveal a far more richly detailed picture.
This ranking consists of global overall and 36 subject-wise rankings. QS World University Rankings is considered as one of the three most significant and closely monitored university evaluations, along with Academic Ranking of World Universities and Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The rankings have been done for Universities in 44 countries around the World.
The major criteria for the ranking are Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation and Research Impact.
In the English language and literature ranking, University of Hyderabad is the only university from India which could find a place among the best universities of the World. This means that University of Hyderabad is the best place in India to pursue higher studies in English language and Literature. In the 100 point index Department of English, UoH scored 54.9 points for academic reputation, 46.8 points for employer reputation and 14.3 points for citations per paper. National University of Singapore (NUS) has been listed as the best Asian University to pursue higher studies in English language and literature.

School of Chemistry also found a prominent place in the World rankings. Out of the 100 point index, School of Chemistry, UoH scored 55.6 for academic reputation, 39.1 points for employer reputation, 79.4 points for citations per paper and 66.9 points for high index citations. In the same category (Chemistry) the top ranking Indian institution, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, scored 72.7, 66.0, 83.1 and 83.2 points respectively. Banaras Hindu University and University of Delhi are the only two Universities along with UoH that finds a place in the World rankings. National University of Singapore (NUS) has been ranked as the best Asian University in this category as well.
