Prof. Rattan Lal Hangloo, senior faculty in Department of History at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has recently been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Kalyani University in West Bengal for a term of four years.
Professor Rattan Lal Hangloo (M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D-JNU) is an eminent historian & specialist on Indian and Central Asia History, politics and Culture, Kashmir Affairs and hails from village Hanglalgund, District Anantnag of Southern Kashmir Province of India. He has been serving the University of Hyderabad for 25 years in different capacities. He was Professor and Head, Department of History at UoH. He was also the Chief Proctor of this University. He has already served as the Chair of Indian Studies at University of West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, and has been awarded several prestigious fellowships, which include: a Fulbright Fellowship by USA, DAAD, Fellowship by Germany and Maison des Sciences visiting fellowship by France. He was recently invited by Maison des Sciences del homme of Paris (FMHS) France as Visiting Professor. He was also visiting professor at University of Delaware (USA), University of Michigan (USA), Heidelberg University Germany, Bamberg University Germany, Ashkabad University, Turkmenistan. He was also the Chancellor’s nominee at Kashmir University.
He has published over 100 papers in national and international journals and more than half a dozen books. Professor Hangloo has been invited to national and international conferences all over the world. He is member of many national and international organizations, both government and non-government. He was a member of Academic Council of the United Nations System, at Yale University, USA for two years. He has guided several Ph.D. and M.Phil scholars who are significantly contributing in various institutions.
The University of Kalyani was established in 1960 with a campus area of over 400 acres in Kalyani town, 50kms from Kolkata. The University has completed four decades of commendable service to the development of higher education keeping in view the importance of the outlying rural economy and the needs and aspirations of the youth in the region. The University is presently offering twenty three post graduate programmes under the faculties, namely, Science, Arts & Commerce, Education, Engineering Technology & Management.
