Shaik John Bashur, a research scholar of Department of Theatre Arts, S N School of Communication, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been selected for J L Narasimha Rao Yuva Rangasthala Puraskaram for the year 2019-20 by Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, for his contribution to Telugu Theatre.
The Theatre Arts department of Potti Sriramulu University gives away Youth Awards in the name of JL Narsimha Rao as part of the Theatre Arts Day celebrations every year. This award is conferred to young theatre enthusiasts below 35 years for theatre arts segments including acting, direction, makeup, lighting and other technical departments.
Shaik John Bashur is a theatre activist and practitioner of theatre for young audience. He completed his Master’s in Theatre Arts from UoH in the year 2009, for which he was also awarded a gold medal. Currently, he is pursuing his PhD from the University of Hyderabad.
Speaking to UoH Herald, Bashur said, “I want to take this opportunity to thank my parents, teachers, friends and comrades for their unconditional support.”
Bashur has been conducting acting workshops and making performances across the country from past ten years. He has been associated with various non-governmental organisations in conducting teacher training programs in the field of theatre in education (TIE).
Bashur has presented research papers in various national and international conferences such as at the University of Stockholm, University of Oslo, Pondicherry Central University and the University of Hyderabad as a theatre practitioner. He has also been associated with international theatre festival of Kerala (ITFOK), International Federation for theatre research (IFTR), International Ibsen Festival and Theatre Outreach unit (TOU).
He is also a recipient of Nandi Award from the government of Andhra Pradesh.
