Debasreeta Deb, a PhD Scholar from the Centre for Regional Studies, working under the supervision of Dr Salah Punathil, recently presented a paper at the Neuchâtel Graduate Conference of Migration and Mobility Studies organised by the Swiss National Center of Competence in Research for Migration and Mobility Studies on July 8–9, 2025, at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Her participation at the conference was fully funded by the organizers. The conference brought together scholars and faculty members from leading global institutions, including the University of Oxford, University of Bonn, University of Amsterdam, among others, fostering a vibrant space for critical dialogue on migration and mobility studies. Participants were required to submit their full papers ahead of the conference, which were rigorously reviewed by an International Academic Committee.

Debasreeta’s paper, titled ‘Suspended Futures: Bureaucratic (Im)mobility and the Politics of Exclusion in Assam’s NRC Regime’, was selected through this highly competitive process and awarded the Best Paper Award of the conference. Her work stood out for its methodological depth, originality, and critical engagement with contemporary debates—earning praise from scholars across disciplines. Along with a certificate, she was also awarded a cash prize of CHF 500 in recognition of her achievement.
