University of Hyderabad’s Department of Communication has been ranked as the top university department of mass communication in the country for the third consecutive year.

In the Outlook-MDRA national survey of professional programmes for 2013, the department, which is part of the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts & Communication at University of Hyderabad, is the only university department to figure this year in the top 10 list of mass communication and journalism courses in India. In fact, UoH’s communication department is ranked number 1 in ‘academic excellence’ among all institutions ranked, both public and private.

The department, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, offers Masters and PhD courses in Communication (with specializations in radio and television, print journalism and new media, and media studies), in addition to a PG Diploma in Health Communication. Among other important activities, the students of the department run Bol Hyderabad 90.4 FM, the campus community radio station of the University. The department, which also houses the only UNESCO Chair on Community Media in the world, will be hosting the prestigious annual conference of the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) in Hyderabad in July 2014, with about 1000 delegates expected to participate from around the world
