The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has taken up massive water conservation programme by desilting and repairing of the existing 4 lakes on the campus. In this direction University has sought the help of the Government of Telangana and they have sanctioned Rs. 85.00 Lakhs for the restoration of the four lakes. Dr. Shailendra Kumar Joshi, Principal Secretary, Department of Irrigation has played a key role in getting the funds under Mission Kakatiya Phase-II.
Dr. Shailendra Kumar Joshi, Principal Secretary and Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor have jointly inaugurated the restoration works of lakes on the campus on 27.4.2016. Shri. K. Suresh Kumar, Chief Engineer, and Y. Sekhar Reddy, Superintending Engineer, Minor Irrigation, Govt. of Telangana have attended the programme. Prof. A.C. Narayana, Prof-in-charge, University Works Department is coordinating the restoration works of lakes from the University side. Both Prof. Appa Rao and Dr. Shailendra Kumar Joshi have stressed the need of conservation of water resources and biodiversity of the serene campus of the UoH. The restoration works of the four lakes is expected to be completed by the second week of June, 2016 i.e. before the onset of the monsoon. This programme could not only enhance the conservation surface water storage but also increase the ground water levels of the University campus and also the surrounding areas.
