The Research & Development Cell (RDC) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) collaborated to host a workshop on Publication Misconduct & Predatory Journals on January 30, 2024. The event took place in the Computer Lab of the College of Integrated Studies and was presided over by Prof. Samrat L Sabat, Director of the R&D Cell.
The importance of organizing such events periodically was emphasized by Prof. Anand Kondappi, Director of IQAC, and Prof. K. Kailash, Associate Director of IQAC, before the commencement of the workshop. Dr. Subhada Nagarkar, a Fulbright scholar and currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science, and the Coordinator of the Centre for Publication Ethics (CPE) at Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, conducted the workshop.
During the workshop, Dr. Nagarkar shed light on the factors contributing to publication misconduct. She provided insights into indexing, journal cloning, the selection of appropriate journals, and the identification of predatory journals. Dr. Nagarkar urged researchers to uphold honesty, responsibility, and ethical practices in their research and publications. The workshop received high praise from Ph.D. research scholars and faculty members across various disciplines who attended, rating it as an excellent learning experience.
Dr. Shubhada Nagarkar has made significant contributions as a Fulbright scholar and plays a crucial role as an Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science. She serves as the Coordinator of the Centre for Publication Ethics (CPE) at Savitribai Phule Pune University, where she has been instrumental in creating and maintaining the Research Portal. Since 2018, Dr. Nagarkar has been a member of the Empower Committee of UGC-CARE, coordinating the UGC-Cell for Journal Analysis established by UGC in January 2019. Her research focuses on Bibliometrics, Publication Ethics, Institutional Repositories, and Digital Libraries. Her work has been published in reputable journals such as Current Science, Journal of Scholarly Publishing, Annals of Library and Information Studies, Library Review, and Library Management. Additionally, she actively contributes to the popularization of Library and Information Science articles through newspapers and blogs.
