The School of Medical Sciences at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) observed World Optometry Day 2025 with a two-day celebration on 26th and 27th March 2025. The event commenced on 26th March with a Vision Screening Camp, inaugurated by Prof. Ramesh Kumar Mishra, Dean, School of Medical Sciences. The camp aimed to raise awareness about the importance of regular eye check-ups and to promote better eye health within the university community. The initiative received a tremendous response, with more than 100 participants from the UoH community availing of the eye screening services.

On 27th March, a series of lectures and student awareness activities were held at the CV Raman Auditorium, Old Science Complex, UoH. The event was coordinated by Dr. Shiva Ram Male, Course Coordinator for I. M. Optometry, who welcomed attendees and set the tone for the day’s events.

Optometry Expert Lecture series by Dr. Kuldeep and Dr. Nagaraju Konda

The Expert Lecture Series featured two distinguished speakers:

  • Dr. Kuldeep from Akriti Eye Pvt. Ltd., who delivered an insightful talk on “Optometry: Future Directions and Industry Research”, emphasizing the evolving role of optometrists in clinical and industrial settings.

  • Dr. Nagaraju Konda, who presented important updates on the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) and discussed its impact on the professional landscape for optometrists in India.

The celebrations also included a Quiz Competition and a symbolic Optometry Awareness Activity, where white balloons were released to promote the theme: “Vision for All: Let Awareness Rise, Let Blindness Fall!”

Students and faculty from the Optometry program participated with enthusiasm and energy throughout the two-day event. In his concluding remarks, Prof. Ramesh Kumar Mishra congratulated the organizing team and praised the students and faculty for their dedicated efforts. He highlighted the distinct research ecosystem at UoH, encouraging students to embrace innovation and explore the abundant opportunities in optometric research and healthcare.
