Nayar and Professor Anna Kurian, presented a paper at the Annual Conference of the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals (RSVP https://rs4vp.org/ ) at the University of Stirling, Scotland (13-15 June, 2024).

His paper, titled “Placing (the) English in ‘Anglo-India’: Notes on the Calcutta Review, 1844-1856” examined the construction of ‘Anglo-India’ as a place in the Calcutta Review, a prominent Anglo-Indian periodical, through its representation of the English people and their language in British India.

He was awarded a merit-based travel grant by the RSVP, which allowed him to participate in the conference and visit the National Library of Scotland (Edinburgh), the British Library (London), and the Mitchell Library (Glasgow) to collect primary material and meet UK-based academics. He thanks the RSVP for the travel grant, and the Indira Gandhi Memorial Library, UoH, for its collections.
