The new English translation of the first social reformist novel in Kannada, Indira Bai was published last month by the Oxford University Press, New Delhi. It has been translated to English by Prof. Vanamala Viswanatha, Bengaluru and Prof. Shivarama Padikkal, Professor in Translation Studies, Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies (CALTS), School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad.
The CALTS Research Forum of the Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies, University of Hyderabad, held a book talk on the New English Translation Indira Bai on October 3, 2019. Prof. Madhava Prasad (EFLU), Prof. Tharakeshwar VB (EFLU) and Prof. Vanamala Viswanatha (Bengaluru) spoke on different contexts, aspects and textualities of the Kannada novel and its translation, followed by a lively discussion.
Prof. Sarat Jyotsna Rani, Dean School of Humanities, and Prof. J. Prabhakara Rao, Head, Centre for Study of Foreign Languages, felicitated the translators on behalf of CALTS. The session was chaired by Prof. Rajyarama, Head, CALTS, University of Hyderabad. Dr. Gracious Mary Temsen welcomed and Dr. Morey Dipak Tryambak proposed vote of thanks.
