Mr. Chandan Ghorui (PMRF Scholar, CSIR Fellow), currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree at the erstwhile Advanced Centre of Research in High Energy Materials (ACRHEM), School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (UoH), under the supervision of Prof. Anil Kumar Chaudhary presented a paper in form of poster entitled “Detection of real time metallic objects using Prototype THz Radar System for Public Security and Defence Applications” during April 7-11, 2024 at the “Terahertz Photonics III,” hosted by the SPIE EUROPE PHOTONICS, Strasbourg, France.

The conference brought together leading experts working in the field of THz Photonics, generation from Crystal, & Metamaterials based sensing applications for interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations. The poster demonstrated the THz based Lab. technique for detecting metallic and explosives under concealed conditions at 3.0-meter range using THz Radar System. The designed technique is useful in critical situations such as a bomb diffusion site in case of an emergency. Owing to its non-invasive nature and small form factor, the system is very handy and portable in nature which can be deployed in any practical situation. It finds potential use in homeland security of public places like shopping malls, Stadiums, Metros, Railways, Airports, etc.

The conference provided the opportunity to engage with renowned experts and researchers who shared similar research interests in the field. It has also established some new connections in his professional network and opened doors for potential collaborations and future research opportunities in the fields of THz Science and Technology. The work would be published in the SPIE Digital Library Proceedings, 2024. “The conference served as a source of inspiration and motivation and the experiences gained from this conference will undoubtedly continue to shape academic and professional trajectory”.

Mr. Chandan Ghorui acknowledges the financial support for maintenance and research from PMRF, Government of India, DRDO Ministry of Defense, Vice Chancellor of UoH, Director (ACRHEM -DIA-CoE), the Dean School of Physics and express special thanks to the Director, Institution of Eminence (IoE), UoH for providing travel grants for attending the conference.
