Every year on April 22, Earth Day is celebrated worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.
This year Earth Day is being celebrated at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on 22nd April, 2014. The day-long programmes include photo contest and exhibition on themes like Waste Management, Climate Change, and Importance of Water. In addition, documentaries on Grasslands, Mountains, Oceans, Deserts and Jungles produced by The Human Planet Series, BBC will be screened at the DST Auditorium from 10 am onwards. This will be followed by a Documentary on Birds titled “Winged Migration”.
