The coaching classes for the UPSC Civil services Preliminary Exam–2019 under the UGC scheme Entry into Services for SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and Minority students were commenced in the evening on 25 September 2018 in the Ambedkar Auditorium, University of Hyderabad. Chief guest Shri S. Umapathi, IPS (Inspector General of Police, Rtd), erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad inaugurated the classes. Addressing the civil services aspirants, he said that getting selected to the civil services is a great opportunity to serve the nation in every possible capacity and contribute for the growth of the nation.

He explained them how to prepare, what to read, how to follow the syllabus, what kind of care must be taken while writing examinations and facing the interview. The President of the function and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Praksh Babu, addressing the students, suggested that the University has been organizing these classes for several years and it is one of those opportunities that the university is providing to its students across the departments. Advised everyone to make use of this opportunity to emerge as successful candidates in their careers. Addressing the students Prof. Darla Venkateshwar Rao, Deputy Dean, Students Welfare, UoH and Guest of honour said that the methods of teaching academic classes and competitive examinations classes are different. Therefore, he continued that taking coaching classes for these examination is very essential to be successful. Dr. B. Krishnaiah, Coordinator of the programme explained the aims and objectives of the programme and made it clear that though the programme is intended officially for the SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and Minority students, the students who are interested in preparing for competitive examinations from other categories are also allowed to attend the classes and get benefitted. He added that about 125 students got registered and attended the classes across the disciplines of the University last academic year and about 130 students registered this academic year. Explaining the efforts of the University to make the students aware of the employment opportunities in the UPSC civil services besides academics, he continued that Prof. P. Apparao, the honorable Vice-Chancellor and Prof. P. Prakash Babu, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University are taking special care and encouraging them to take this competitive spirit into the student community by providing these coaching classes seriously on the right path. Therefore, they are organizing these classes in collaboration with the Deeksha IAS, Academy, Hyderabad who are serving up to the expectation of the students and the university. Sri Ramarao, Sri Rajeshwar Rao and Sri Srinivasulu, faculty from Deeksha IAS academy were also present at the programme.
