One of the winners of the 2018 Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, Mr. Shadab Moizee held a discussion with students pursuing Mass Communication at the University of Hyderabad.

Shadab Ahmad Moizee received the award in 2018 for a follow-up story on the victims of the Muzaffarnagar riot. His ground-level reporting of the aftermath of the Muzzafarpur riots, which occurred in 2013, earned him accolades from across the country.

During the visit, Mr. Shadab Ahmad Moizee, currently the Associate Editor at The Quint, accompanied Ms.Meenakshy Sasikumar, Gender Correspondent, at The Quint. Shadab opened up about, the moving and unchanged plight of the families of the riot victims even after five years, which pushed him to cover the issue. Shadab also shared his personal experiences, which had episodes of courage and despair. Later Ms. Meenakshi spoke about her journey at the organization and how The Quint gave her a platform to become a voice for the issues that she felt needed attention. The members also shared, how at The Quint there is freedom to journalists to cover issues they feel need to reach the common man.

The discussion was facilitated by Mr. Janardhan Rao Cheeli, Associate Professor, Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad. Prof. Janardhan Rao Cheeli spoke about how the media industry has evolved and the need for passionate journalists in the present times.

Students posed questions to the team about the role of Artificial Intelligence and the challenges it poses. The students shared their experiences with mobile journalism and how powerful the modern-day smartphone can be, as an important tool to highlight issues that need attention.
