A ten-day research methodology course sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi was successfully completed at the University of Hyderabad on 9th April, 2019. Prof. P. Venkata Rao, Dean, School of Social Sciences while speaking at the valedictory session appreciated the various academic activities organised by the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) and also emphasised the importance of research methods in Social Sciences. He stressed the need of Publications in research as research alone without publication has no value.
Prof. Prakash Babu, Pro Vice Chancellor of University of Hyderabad, who was the Chief Guest for the session highlighted the need for strengthening research methods in Social Sciences. Prof. Panchanan Mohanty, member of ICSSR, and former Dean, School of Humanities, underlined the need for language policies without which the education sector cannot be reformed. He also emphasised the importance of ‘mother tongue’ and advocated the publication of research in indigenous languages as there is dearth of literature in the same.
Prof K. Raja Mohan Rao, Course Director and Head, CSSEIP, thanked ICSSR for its funding and explained the various topics covered in the workshop for the benefit of the participants to sharpen their research skills. A total of 121 applications were received from various institutions across the country. 30 Ph.D scholars were selected from different states, institutions and departments in Social Sciences including University of Hyderabad. The participants shared their experiences during the course of the workshop and also conveyed their gratitude towards the Centre, as well as the University, for conducting the Research Methodology Course.
Miss. Sarwatay Devina Rajendra from Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad and Miss Afreen from Department of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University received the best participant award.
