National Conference- “Revisiting Tribal Policies, Research and Innovations” on 29-30 August 2017 at University of Hyderabad

Centre for Innovations in Public Systems (CIPS), Hyderabad; University of Hyderabad (UoH), Hyderabad and Tribal Welfare Department (TWD), Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP), Vijayawada is jointly organizes a National Conference- “Revisiting Tribal Policies, Research and Innovations” on 29-30 August 2017 at University of Hyderabad.

Centre for Innovations in Public Systems (CIPS) is an autonomous body set up by the Government of India in May 2010 at ASCI in pursuance of the recommendations of the XIII Finance Commission. The mission of CIPS is to help create a climate and nurture a culture for accelerating and spreading innovations in public systems.

After reorganization of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, The TWD, Govt. of AP has reconstituted the Tribal Cultural Research and Training Mission (TCR&TM) at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh to assist the government in policy formulation pertaining to Tribal Welfare.

TWD, GoAP, has approached CIPS to suggest road map to the Mission to carry out research and thereby enable the Mission to assist government in Tribal Welfare. After continuous deliberations with Department of Anthropology, UoH, it has been decided to organize a National Conference on “Revisiting Tribal Policies, Research and Innovations” on 29-30 August 2017 at University of Hyderabad.

The conference is one of its kind which hopes to bring the academicians, administrators and the activists onto the same platform to discuss and re-visit the policy and research pertaining to the Tribal Welfare and also to bring forward the innovative measures adopted by the administrators and activists in the public service delivery. The conference aims to come up with a road map to carryout research and formulating the policy and innovative implementation for the better public service delivery in the Tribal areas.

The National Conference shall have Inaugural Session followed by (8) Technical Parallel Sessions to discuss various sub-themes such as innovations in Tribal development and Welfare, Education, Gender and Health, Tribal Identity, Culture and Research, Natural Resource Management, Tribal Economy. The Conference will be concluded by Summing up session followed by valedictory Session. One of the unique features of the conference is that the entire programme will be Live Streamed and it can be accessed through the following link:

The expected outcome of the conference is three-fold: a) furnishing a road map for the TCR&TM, Andhra Pradesh for taking up research, b) revisiting the existing policies and programs for tribal development and suggest appropriate recommendations, c) disseminating information on the various best practices and innovations in the public systems across the country.

Honourable Minister for SWE&TWE, Shri. Nakka Anand Babu will be the Chief Guest and inaugurate the Conference on 29th August 2017. Shri. Giridhar Gamang, former Chief Minister, Odisha, Dr. Nivedita P Haran, IAS (Retd.), Director, CIPS and Dr. M. Padma, IAS, Special Commissioner, TWD, GoAP will be the guests of Honor and the session is chaired by Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad.

Since 29th August is also the 154th birth anniversary of Sri Gidugu Ramamurty (1863-1940), one of the earliest champions of the tribal cause in India, the conference would also pay homage to him in the inaugural session.

Shri. K. Padmanabhaiah, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, Court of Governors, ASCI, will be the Chief Guest for the Valedictory Session on 30th August 2017. Shri. Ram Prakash Sisodia, IAS, Principal Secretary to Govt. Tribal Welfare, GoAP; Shri. C. Achalender Reddy, IFS, Additional Director, CIPS and Prof. P. Venkata Rao, Dean, School of Social Science, UoH will be Guest of Honors while Shri. Rajen Habib Khwaja, IAS (Retd.), Director General, ASCI, Chairman, Steering Committee, CIPS chairs the Session.
