Dr. S. Arulmozi, Professor, Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies was invited as an Eminent Speaker at the International KaniTamil2024 Conference held at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai from 8-10 February, 2024. Prof. S. Arulmozi delivered his lecture on “Tamil WordNet and Corpora” on 9th February 2024.
Prof. S. Arulmozi, in his lecture on `Tamil WordNet and Corpora’ introduced the need for creating Lexical Resources such as WordNet and Corpora in Indian Languages, with particular reference to Tamil. He explained the principles followed in building WordNets in Indian Languages as well as the issues in the construction of Tamil WordNet. Further, he discussed how Tamil WordNet was created using Rajendran (2001) Modern Tamil Thesaurus using Merge approach and Hindi WordNet using Expansion Approach. He also touched upon the usefulness of WordNet in Natural Language Processing applications.
