School of Economics, University of Hyderabad (UoH), organized the Economics Conclave 2018 during August 25-26, 2018. The Economics Conclave is an annual conference event organized mainly by post graduate students (MA Economics and MA Financial Economics) of the UoH School of Economics.
On Day 1, in the inaugural session, Dr. Phanindra Goyari, Professor of Economics and Dean i/c, School of Economics, delivered the welcome speech in the C V Raman Auditorium. Prof. Goyari extended a warm welcome to invited speakers, delegates, faculty members, students & research scholars and all other participants. This was followed by two academic lectures in the morning session. Prof. Aseem Prakash, from TISS Hyderabad, delivered the keynote address on the topic “State, Markets and Regulatory Capitalism in India”. Dr. Ruchir Bharati, DGM, Strategic Deals-TATA Commmunications Ltd., delivered a special lecture on ‘Smart Cities in India: Issues and Challenges in Global Perspectives”. In the afternoon, an invited lecture was delivered by Dr. Antonella Palumbo, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Roma Tre University, Italy, on the topic “Heterodox Economics: Critique and Reconstruction”. The last session of Day 1 was a panel discussion on “Challenges before institutions of higher learning in India”. Panelists included Dr. I. Ramabrahmam (Professor, Department of Political Science), Dr. K. Suneetha Rani (Professor, Centre for Women’s Studies) and Dr. Anindita Mukhopadhyay (Associate Professor, Department of History). Dr. G. Vijay, Assistant Professor of Economics, was moderating this panel discussion.
Day 2 events included competitions in presentations of research papers, mock-stock game and the Economics Conclave Quiz. In the presentation of research papers, Lekha Chandran (Research Scholar, Department of Economics, University of Kerala) was selected for the best paper award. Mr Yatharth Sachdeva from MA Economics, UoH School of Economics won the first prize in the mock-stock exchange game. Mr. Sreeraj Gopal (IMA Sociology) and Mr. Amithabh Sai (IMA Economics) from University of Hyderabad, were the winners in the Economics Conclave Quiz.
The main organizing team members of The Economics Conclave 2018 included Akanksha Ahuja, Ingole Mayur Janardhan, Bikash Agrawal, Vyasdev Pradhan and many others. Mr. Limakumba Walling, Assistant Professor of Economics, was the faculty coordinator.
