Distinguished Trinity College Professor, Dr. Richard Millwood, gave a lecture on ‘The learner at the Centre of Educational Design’ at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) here on Thursday, the 19th of January 2017.
Having profound career skills in teaching mathematics and computer programming, Millwood, since 1976, is working on designing and developing the best possible use of technology in learning. He considers the education models of the present day as linear and unsympathetic to the environment. Touching on the elements of appreciation, zest, conviviality and controversy, the lecture focused on an encompassment of these factors in making education a delightful and interactive process. “My roots are England, my reference point is the moon, and my sense of belonging of the society of human kind and am still learning”, opined Dr. Millwoods while addressing education as a global phenomenon, irrespective of regional boundaries. The lecture was followed by an interactive session where the students questioned the existing academic curriculum and models of teaching.
Dr. Millwoods has published papers, guided doctoral research in these areas and is also currently supervising research at Trinity College in Dublin.
Prof. Vipin Srivastava, Pro Vice-Chancellor presided while Prof. Siva Prasad, Head for the Department of Education and Education Technology coordinated the lecturer.
