The National Handloom Day celebrations were held on August 4, 2017 at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus. Prof. P. Prakash Babu, Pro-Vice Chancellor-2 was the chief guest, Sri M. Devendra, Joint Director, Directorate of Field Publicity, AP & Telengana Region, Sri Himaja Kumar, Asst. Director, Weaver Service Centre, Govt. of India, Sri U.V. Rao, Handloom Enterpreneur, Sri Gajam Mutyalu, National Awardee Weaver attended the National Handloom Day Celebrations.
Prof. P. Prakash Babu in his address emphasized the role of Bio-Engineering and Bio-Technology in making the handloom sector more tech savvy reducing painful labor in the weaving process and making it easier for the weavers.
Dignitaries from Directorate of Field Publicity have explained in detail the purpose of celebrating National Handloom Day and choosing August 7 every year for the purpose. They also explained the steps taken by the Union Government to give impetus to the handloom sector.
Prof. Debashis Acharya, Dean, Students’ Welfare, Prof. Darla Venkateshwara Rao, Dy. Dean, Students’ Welfare have attended the National Handloom Day celebrations and expressed their happiness and gratitude to the Directorate of Field Publicity for choosing our University to celebrate National Handloom Day Celebrations on the campus.
OGU KATHA has put up its performance on this occasion. An essay writing competition was conducted among students of our University on August 3, 2017. Top three winners and two consolation prizes in the form of certificates were also given to the winners.
