Dr. Swati Ghosh Acharyya, Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been selected for the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) Young Engineer Award, 2018 in recognition of her excellence in engineering research towards proactive management of corrosion through indigenous development of materials, technology and modeling.
The Award consists of a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, citation and INAE Young Associate ship till 45 years of age. Highlights of her contribution include establishment of a novel technique for bulk synthesis of few layer graphene and indigenous fabrication of few layer graphene coatings for protection of mild steel against high temperature corrosion. She has established the ‘self healing’ nature of single layer and bilayer graphene by molecular dynamics simulation, an innovative technique to prevent chloride induced stress corrosion cracking of austenitic stainless steel components. She has developed novel Ti-Nb alloys having enhanced wear resistance and bio-compatibility for knee implant application.
She will receive the award at the INAE National Convention to be held in Hyderabad on December 14, 2018.
