The starting period of any institution is its glorious phase and this institution has maintained its glorious phase for the last four decades said Prof. D Balasubramanian, Research Director, L V Prasad Eye Institute while speaking at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on 1st December 2015. Dr. Balasubramanian was the Guest of Honour at the felicitation function of Prof. A S Raghavendra who retired from the Department of Plant Sciences after serving the University for thirty years.

Prof. Balasubramanian was reflecting on the growth and path to success of University of Hyderabad where he was associated with the Chemistry School in its formative years. I was fortunate to have gone to the right place at the right time, he said. He also recalled his involvement in the construction of the boundary wall of UoH in its initial stage which has today to a large extent kept the University land safe from encroachment. The practices and traditional set-up at UoH have contributed to the success of the University, he added. Batch after batch the students have contributed a great deal in the success of this institution and informal interactions during my time at the University have lead to great ideas which also helped in shaping this institution among the top in the country, said Prof. Balasubramanian.

The UoH is fortunate to have had Vice-Chancellor’s who have contributed to the growth of the University all these years and today the Department of English and the School of Chemistry are known among the best in the World to study, said Prof. Balasubramanian. He further stated that Independence, autonomy are very important for the growth of the University. Logic and Rationale are the factors that the University must work on. Ideas count and with ideas comes action; this is what the UoH has been doing for the last four decades and the proof is the countless National awardees that the institution has produced, he added.

Concluding his talk Prof. Balasubramanian said that he was convinced that the UoH will only grow more and more over the time to be counted among the top Universities in the World.
