The Department of Communication, Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad (UoH) oraganized an interaction between the students of the MA Course and Vijay Joshi, CEO & R. Sundaram, Editor (Video) of Press Trust of India (PTI) on April 3, 2023. The interaction opened with Mr. Vijay asking the students “Is PTI a government or a private entity?” From there on Mr. Vijay spoke about the founding days of the organization to the present day functioning. Elaborating on the methods of financial operation Mr. Vijay told the students that PTI is a non-profit cooperative which acts an aggregator of news, which then is bought by the media firms.
Mr. Janardhan Rao Cheeli, Associate Professor, Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad moderated the interaction while also giving his insights about the media industry and the crucial role played by PTI since its inception.

Mr.R. Sundaram, Editor (Video), Press Trust of India (PTI) explained about the relevance and importance of visual storytelling in this era of increased digital media consumption. Mr. Sundaram also highlighted the impact that visuals carry in a story.
Towards the end of the interaction students asked questions and provided their understandings and insights about the media industry. The students remarked that though the journalists across the globe face constant threats to life, it’s their passion to be the voice for the voiceless that motivates them to pursue journalism. Dhruv and Ranjeet both first year students highlighted the dearth of local language journalists and how they plan to fill the space.
