Workshop on IRINS has been conducted by IGM library, University of Hyderabad (UoH) in collaboration with INFLIBNET on 24 January, 2020 at C V Raman Auditorium.
The IRINS, a web based Research Information Management service developed by the information and Library Network (INFLIBNET), functioning under MHRD, Govt. of India. The Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS) would support to integrate the existing research management system particularly the content harvested from commercial and open citation databases, scholarly publishers, institutional repositories, etc with the support of academic identities like ORCID ID, Scopus ID, Researchers ID, Google scholar ID, etc. The identities play an important role in bringing out their research output in a single platform with details of publications, academic credentials, citations, co-citation index, i-10 index, h-index, etc.
There are more than 125 publicly funded universities have been already part of IRINS instances and it will continue to create all the academic institutions in India. The INFLIBNET is promoting the creation of IRINS to all the institutions to bring awareness about the importance of this service to the faculty members to become part of IRINS network, so that the research output of individual researcher contribution may witness globally. The University of Hyderabad has already been part of IRINS network and created its IRINS research information network.
The workshop mainly focused for faculty & research scholars of University of Hyderabad, IRINS nodal officers of other institutions in Hyderabad and also extended to the library professionals in nearby institutions. There are 150 participants were registered for the workshop, which includes faculty, research scholars, nodal officers and library professionals.
The inauguration was held between 10.30 to 11.15 am, Dr Varatharajan, University Librarian introduced the concept of the workshop and the reason behind in conducting the workshop. Dr B Ravi , Librarian has shared the experiences of creation of UOH -IRINS database and the steps followed in creating a database by presenting a detailed IRINS system of University of Hyderabad faculty research output. There are two resource persons from INFLIBNET introduced briefly about IRINS system and the coverage of present workshop. Prof P. Prakashbabu, Dean of Medical Sciences, UOH has invited as chief guest for inaugurating the workshop. Prof Prakashbabu inaugurated the workshop and addressed the gathering by emphasizing the role was assigned to him, by the Hon’ble vice chancellor when he was working as a pro vice chancellor. The UOH VC asked him to look in to coordinate with faculty to provide the required information and advise the Librarians for creating the IRINS database. He has revealed the many meetings, discussions were held with Vice chancellor, Deans and faculty members for collecting the information for creating the IRINS database to bringout the entire research output of university in one flat form. Finally he has appreciated the Library team for creating successfully a UOH –IRINS with various efforts. Dr Sivashankaraprasad, Dy Librarian proposed the vote of thanks during the inauguration.
There were two main sessions were held during the workshop, one session was mainly focused on methodology used for creation of IRINS, its major features and functionalities. The second session was focused on creation of academic identity like ORCID Id, Scopus Id. Researcher Id, Google scholar Id, which help to harvest the research publications related to the researcher. The UOH-IRINS site uohyd.irins.org was demonstrated by Dr B Ravi with focusing on different steps.
