The Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies (CALTS), University of Hyderabad, in collaboration with National Translation Mission (NTM), CIIL Mysuru organized a workshop on ‘Vetting and Finalization of the Translation Equivalents in Indian Languages’ from 5th September to 11th September, 2023. A group of experts from the fields of Sociology, Psychology, and Education validated and finalized the translation equivalents of technical words into Telugu.
Dr. Naresh Annem from CALTS, who is coordinating the workshop said “This workshop is a step towards the larger efforts that are underway for translation of knowledge texts across various disciplines. These efforts align well with the focus of NEP 2020 on regional languages and will help in generating a regional language centred teaching paradigm”.
Talking about the importance of such workshops, Dr. Tariq Khan, officer in-charge, NTM said “Translating technical terms to Indian languages is the need of the hour. NTM has been making substantial efforts in this direction and workshops like these will help in facilitating NTM’s efforts”.
With resolute focus on clarity and efficiency of translation, the workshop has generated thoughtful and energetic discussions among the experts on the nuances of the respective domains.
