The School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), successfully organised a workshop on “Writing Across Disciplines: From Ideas to Dissertation/Publication” from 4 – 6 August 2014.

The students had a good opportunity to learn the techniques of writing a research paper. Experts from diverse fields were the Resource persons and they shared their ideas to make the process more productive.

Suchitra Shenoy, Creative Writer turned Economist set the tone for the workshop by speaking on “Creative Writing”. Ashima Sood who is an expert on reading and writing, trained the scholars on the significance of critical reading skills. Aniket Alam and Tanya Sethi from the Economic and Political Weekly spoke about the importance of Research Ethics and Plagiarism. The team also spoke about the aspects of publishing a research paper in a journal. Tarun Jain from Indian School of Business taught about analysing the data, while N.G Satish whose expertise is in the field of Library Sciences presented elaborately about utilisation of Library and Internet resources.

Participation of Students of different departments and centres, sharing of ideas and methodologies made the sessions more lively and interesting. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haribabu congratulated the Dean of the School, Prof. Aloka Parasher-Sen for such a fruitful initiative and also advised to organise this event regularly for the benefit of students.
