Akshay Singh Thakur, an alumnus of the Department of Theatre Arts, S.N. School, University of Hyderabad, from 2020 to 2023 has won the Best Director award at the prestigious Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) 2025.
His outstanding theatrical production, “Swang: Jis Ki Tas”, is based on renowned writer Vijaydan Detha’s story ‘Thakur Ka Roothna.’ He presented it in Bundelkhandi, using the traditional Swang style under the title Jas Ki Tas.
It was selected for the META festival and won awards in several categories, marking a significant accomplishment in Indian theatre. The play was staged at Kamani Auditorium in New Delhi, where it received a full house, and after the performance, the audience gave a standing ovation in recognition of its excellence. He also won the META 2025 award for Best Sound and Music Design, Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male) for Abhishek Gautam, and Best Ensemble. This is a truly remarkable achievement that brings great pride to the Theatre Arts Department.
