The School of Medical Sciences organized invited lectures by two distinguished faculty from Linnaeus University Sweden on 1st August 2018. Prof Prakash Babu Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean School of Medical Sciences was the Chief Guest. Prof Prakash Babu welcomed the guest to University & School of Medical Sciences and thanked for taking time to come and talk to the students.
Prof. Peter Gierow Head of Department of Medicine and optometry, Linnaeus university in Sweden spoke about “Dry eye diagnosis and treatment options”. Prof Gierow in his talk covered mainly about the latest definition of dry eye and all the tests which are required for proper diagnosis. Prof. Gierow also shared research finding from his lab and pointed out that how multi-centric trails are required to understand the racial and geographical associated factors.
The other speaker was Prof. Baskar Theagarayan also from Linnaeus University. Prof Theagarayan spoke about “Myopia Progression”. Prof. Theagarayan covered in his talk ancient to latest treatment strategies. Prof Theagarayan also stressed on how myopic refractive error is going to be a matter of public health concern with half on the world population predicted to become myopic by 2050. The talks were well received by 200 plus students from optometry, public health, neural &cognitive Sciences and psychology background. The students appreciated the faculties interacting with them and patiently answering their questions.
The invited guests also spent time with Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean of School of Medical Sciences Prof. Prakash Babu and faculty of the School exploring possibilities of Institution collaboration. There were discussion about research collaborations and also about student and faculty exchange between the two institutions. The Visiting Faculties were very happy to see the interdisciplinary strength of School of Medical Sciences and were very keen to make use of the same by collaborating.
