Surendhra Kesana who is an M.B.A from School of Management Studies, UoH and Bachelor in Technology with a specialization of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, writes on his experiences and pet project for UoH Herald.
I was at crossroads on completion of my bachelor’s degree, whether to take up a job or go for an M.B.A. I chose to do an M.B.A to be a step closer to fulfill my ambition to be an entrepreneur. Being from a business family taught me what to and what not to do in a business, my passion for entrepreneurship was always been there. At the age of sixteen I have experienced failure in business to realize what a serious blow it can deliver along with having almost lost a valuable academic year. All that had made me even more passionate to be an entrepreneur.
When I was in the second year of my M.B.A I approached one of my faculty, Dr. P. Jyothi who is also the Entrepreneurship Development (ED) Cell coordinator with a business idea of ‘coin operated Laundry system’. From there on I got the able guidance from ED Cell in every perspective. ED cell provided me great encouragement, in particular Dr. Jyothi has given me support in transforming a business idea that was an academic project too. Today it is a full-fledged business venture which is up and running. ED Cell and the School of Management Studies (SMS) has provided me support in identifying a platform to run a pilot project so as to test the idea. They have provided me the necessary resources at every point of time to help me to chase my dream of entrepreneurship.
The idea ‘coin operated laundry system’ was conceived by me in the first year of my M.B.A. The identification of opportunity in the laundry services on the campus of UoH has led to development of a unique service model which can cater to the need for laundry services in a reliable and affordable way. My approach, application of technology to solve a problem has led to design systems to convert the domestic washing machine to coin operated washing machine and for process to washing. My business and technical skills together enabled me to identify the problem and solve it using technology.
