Mr. Al-Amin Yusuph, Information & Communication Advisor for South Asia, UNESCO has called upon the Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad (UoH), Prof. Appa Rao Podile and discussed matters related to ongoing cooperation between the two organizations. He was accompanied by Mr. Anirban Sharma, the National Programme Officer, UNESCO New Delhi.
Mr. Yusuph conveyed his appreciation of the valuable work being done by the UNESCO Chair on Community Media at the University, the only one of its kind in the world, headed by Prof. Vinod Pavarala of the Department of Communication. He said it has contributed to research, policy advocacy and capacity building in the domain of community media, not only in India, but also in the rest of South Asia and Africa. The Vice-Chancellor reiterated his strong support to the Chair, which was set up in 2011, and expressed a keen interest in sustained collaboration between UNESCO and University of Hyderabad. The two also discussed possibilities for University of Hyderabad working in and for higher education in Africa within the ambit of South-South cooperation promoted by UN agencies.
Mr. Yusuph also visited the E-Learning Centre of the University and interacted with the Director, Prof. J. Prabhakar Rao, who appraised him of the Centre’s activities in the area of developing open educational resources. The visitors and Centre personnel also explored the potential for the University to engage with the Information for All Programme of UNESCO.
