The University of Hyderabad (UoH) unveiled the Institution of eminence (IoE) Logo at a glittering programme organized at the Dr. Zakir Husain Lecture Hall Complex on the campus. This logo was unveiled by Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice Chancellor, UoH in the presence of Prof Graziano Kratli from Yale University who also delivered the First Institution of Eminence Lecture.
Entries were invited for the Logo design Competition and 24 entries were received. The jury comprised of Prof. Kanchan Malik from the Department of Communication, Prof. Vijay Bhaskar Marisetty from the School of Management Studies, and Prof. B V Suresh from the Department of Fine Arts in the university.
The jury members had very different perspectives and approaches to this task, and they met several times with the IoE Team to identify and clarify the symbolic elements that would represent the University’s vision as an Institution of Eminence.
The designs of the two students that were shortlisted had entirely different qualities and strengths. The team was able to convince both the designers, Ms Anakha Ajith and Mr Aakash Dinkar to collaborate and work closely together to combine the best of their ideas in order to align it with the larger vision of the university as an Institution of Eminence. Together, they came up with the logo that has been unveiled today.
About the Logo
The open book in the lower half of the logo suggests the opening of young minds to the rich worlds of learning in libraries, laboratories and studios — the spaces of knowledge and learning. The collection of pens in the center of the logo hints to the spirit of teamwork as scholars from different schools and disciplines of the university come together to collaborate in a spirit of study and inquiry. The research in the university tries sees the world in stark black and white terms, while paying equal attention to the grey zones in between. The five pens slowly mutate into a crown that represent the highest glory of a university that is committed to pushing the frontiers of knowledge. Finally, the world of books, research and learning is placed in an open-ended foliage wreath as a reminder of the glory and abundance of natural beauty that makes up the campus of the University of Hyderabad.
A cake was cut to mark this happy occasion and the students Ms Anakha Ajith, Department of Anthropology and Mr Aakash Dinkar, School of Computer and Information Sciences were presented with appreciation certificates.
