SPICMACAY, University of Hyderabad sub – chapter kick-started its new academic year with a captivating lecture demonstration of Tholapavakoothu, a traditional shadow puppetry of Kerala by Sri K K Ramachandra Pulavar and team on 24th July at Savitribai Phule Auditorium in the University of Hyderabad (UoH)
The event started with lighting the lamp, followed by lecture Demonstration from the renowned artists, which included valuable information about the History and differences in shadow puppetry across different states in India. They also demonstrated how they enact behind with live music and sound in front of the screen.
Later, the artists completely succeeded in taking the audience into another world with their showcasing of concise version of Ramayana organically through cloth and lamps. The artists also answered questions from audience and even showed what happens behind the screen.
The Memorable event ended with felicitation of the artists and vote of thanks from the University Cultural Coordinator, Dr Zahidul Haque.
“We become the puppet we play” by Sri Ramachandra Pulavar perhaps can summarize the entire lecture demonstration.
