We congratulate Mr. Vinay Joru, a PhD student at the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST), University of Hyderabad, on winning the Best Metallography Award in the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) category at the 79th Annual Technical Meeting of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM-ATM 2025).

Mr. Joru was recognized for his metallographic project titled “Sunset at the Metropolitan City of TaN Thin Film.” In addition to this esteemed accolade, he was awarded a generous gift voucher valued at EUR 60 (Sixty Euros) from Springer Nature for the purchase of eBooks.

The stunning micrograph that garnered this award was captured using the cutting-edge Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM, FEI Nova NanoSEM 450), available at SEST. This competition showcases the finest work from metallographers and microstructural analysts across the metals and materials community. Apart from this, he also presented a paper, a part of his PhD research work.

Vinay credits his success to the guidance of Dr. Venkata Girish Kotnur and the support of Prof. Jaiprakash Guatam, Dean of SEST, and the University of Hyderabad.
