Prof P S Roy has been recently conferred with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Performance Excellence Award. Prof Roy is NASI Senior Scientist Platinum Jubilee Fellow with University Centre of Earth and Space Sciences (UCESS) at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and also has been Dr K L Rao Geospatial Chair Professor (2012-2015) with UCESS.
Dr Roy was with Indian Space Research Organisation/Department of Space for more than 35 years. He superannuated as Director, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO) in 2012. He has been awarded ISRO Professional Excellence Award of 2015. The award is conferred annually to the individuals who have contributed significantly to the growth of ISRO and also achieved scientific excellence. The award carries cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs, a certificate and medal.
Prof P S Roy has made immense contribution in the field of Earth Observation and Geo-information Sciences with special focus on generation of information services for the social applications. He has pioneering scientific contribution in natural resource management; forestry and biodiversity; landscape ecology; land use and land cover change and climate change.
