As one of the Country’s most innovative and vibrant universities, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) is recognised as being at the forefront of the frontier research agenda across a wide range of disciplines. The faculty of the University are among the best in the World. The faculty won several national and international recognition’s, in addition to having 246 ongoing research projects to their credit worth 253 crore rupees.
In the past decade (2006-2015), the University operated sizeable number of such research projects that paved new pathways for novel research, discovery, innovation, scholarship, and artistic creation, and in so doing, enhanced the national and international profile of the University in Research and Development.
The UoH has been declared as the Best Central University for the year 2015. The University was given the Visitors Award by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. It is a matter of pride that UoH has been ranked among the best in the world by UK Based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) to study English Language & Literature; Chemistry and Physics in the year 2016. In the field of English it is the only institution from India that has been listed in the world rankings.
On careful evaluation of data from SCOPUS for the last ten years, the number of publications by the faculty and research scholars showed a steady upward trend (see below).
Though there has been a small decline in the publications in 2015 as compared to 2014 this has been largely due to a reduction in the number of faculty over the corresponding period. A total of 7134 research documents are recorded in SCOPUS for the period 2006-2015. Publications in Chemistry are the highest with 2017 documents and next are Physics with 1740. The total citations for the above period are 53873 with an impressive h-index of 72.
A few of the faculty who have maximum number of publications listed include G R Desiraju; A Nangia; G Mehta; M Periasamy; G S Agarwal; MNV Prasad; S N Kaul; P Reddanna etc. At UoH we have seen a four-fold increase in the research publications over the last decade whereas the faculty have increased only by 1.3 times in the same period. This shows the tremendous opportunity that is available for research in our Country today. The faculty of UoH reinforce the University’s commitment to research excellence and works to expand its reach and impact globally.
