The summer school is hosted by the Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society at the University of Groningen, in association with the GRACE-ETN alumni network. The programme brings together an international cohort of early-career scholars to critically engage with some of the most pressing debates shaping environmental justice, social inequality, and cultural diversity today. The host institution, established in 1614, is one of the oldest and most highly ranked research universities in Europe, widely recognized for its strong focus on interdisciplinary excellence.
Ms. Baburaj’s research is situated in the rapidly expanding field of Environmental Humanities. By participating in this specific programme, she will explore how cultural and religious worldviews shape societal responses to climate change and environmental injustice.
During the intensive five-day programme, Ms. Baburaj will participate in interactive lectures and hands-on methodological workshops. She will also have the opportunity to present her ongoing research in small-group sessions and receive structured feedback from leading scholars.
The programme, which awards a formal Certificate of Attendance equivalent to 1 ECTS credit, will enable a comparative understanding of environmental narratives across different cultural and geographical landscapes. Engaging with an interdisciplinary cohort in the Netherlands will allow Ms. Baburaj to build long-term academic connections and bring diverse global perspectives back to her research at the University of Hyderabad. The fully funded nature of this selection underscores the high caliber of interdisciplinary research being produced at the University of Hyderabad. The university community extends its congratulations to Arundhathi Baburaj for this remarkable achievement.
