The University of Hyderabad is proud to announce that its official online news portal, UoH Herald, has crossed the significant milestone of 5,000 published posts. Since its official launch in January 2013, the Herald has steadily evolved into a bilingual, high-quality platform — a unique endeavour among central institutions — reflecting the dynamic life of the university community.
From Pilot to Institution
The genesis of UoH Herald lies in the vision of the Public Relations Office and the Communication Department: to replace the conventional printed newsletter with a more immediate, accessible, and bilingual digital medium. The then Vice-Chancellor approved the initiative, and a pilot edition was run over three weeks in December 2012 on WordPress, leading to the formal launch in January 2013. Over the years, the Herald has matured into a reliable source of news, insights, and storytelling for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Milestones Along the Journey
- First 500 posts (2014): An early indicator of robust engagement and content generation.
- 1,100 posts (2016): A testament to consistent publishing and growing institutional confidence.
- 3,700 posts (2023): A decade of continuous contributions and expanding readership.
- 5,000+ posts (2025): The culmination of years of dedication, community trust, and editorial diligence.
These milestones affirm the Herald’s unwavering commitment to quality communication and institutional transparency.
The People Behind the Posts
The success of UoH Herald is not merely a numbers game. It is rooted in the collective efforts of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and an ever-enthusiastic cohort of interns who research, write, edit, and curate. Their shared commitment propels the Herald forward, ensuring it remains both timely and inclusive.
A Growing Digital Presence: 2007 to Today
Concurrent with the Herald’s growth, the University of Hyderabad’s social media footprint has expanded substantially, enabling wider dissemination and engagement of its stories:
- Facebook: ~ 65,000 followers
- X (formerly Twitter): ~ 15,100 followers
- LinkedIn: ~ 95,000 followers
- Instagram: ~ 21,000 followers
- YouTube: ~ 11,000 subscribers
Collectively, these platforms now reach well over 200,000 people, amplifying the reach of Herald news and institutional communications.
Sustaining Bilingual Excellence
From its inception, the Herald has operated in English and Hindi, publishing parallel versions whenever possible. This bilingual approach not only aligns with our commitment to inclusivity and official language policy but also extends the portal’s reach across linguistic communities.
