It is a moment of immense pride for the University of Hyderabad community as we celebrate the appointment of our distinguished alumna, Prof. Asima Sahu, as the Vice Chancellor of Khallikote Unitary University, Berhampur.

An alumna of the University of Hyderabad, M.A. Political Science, Class of 1985, Prof. Sahu’s journey from the classrooms of UoH to the leadership of a prestigious university stands as a remarkable testament to her academic brilliance, dedication, and visionary leadership.

A Trailblazer in Political Science

Prof. Sahu’s academic journey has been truly exceptional. She began with top honours at Utkal University, where she was recognised as the Best Lady Graduate in Arts, and went on to pursue advanced studies at the University of Hyderabad and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

With over 36 years of teaching experience, she has emerged as a towering figure in Odisha’s academic landscape. Her contributions to the discipline of Political Science have been especially significant.

A Legacy of Research and Mentorship

Prof. Sahu’s impact extends far beyond the classroom. As a prolific scholar and mentor, she has:

  • Authored nine books and numerous high-impact research articles
  • Led major research projects funded by the ICSSR and UGC
  • Guided 15 PhD scholars to the successful completion of their doctoral degrees

Leadership and Global Recognition

Before assuming her present role, Prof. Sahu held several important administrative positions at Ravenshaw University, including Chairperson of the PG Council and Dean of Students’ Welfare. Her expertise in academic quality and institutional development is further reflected in her role as an Assessor for the NAAC.
