The Indira Gandhi Memorial Library buzzed with enthusiasm and curiosity during a two-day (i.e., 14th & 15th October 2025) educational field trip by students from Kallam Anji Reddy Vidyalaya established with the aim of making quality education accessible to children from economically backward homes. Nearly 300 students from Classes VIII and IX, accompanied by their teachers and librarian, explored the University’s vast learning space and discovered the many ways libraries nurture education and creativity.

The visit began with a warm welcome by Dr. O. Sivasankar Prasad, University Librarian I/c, who introduced the young children to the fundamentals of the library system. He spoke about the library’s history, its role in fostering intellectual growth, and the importance of developing a love for reading from an early age. His inspiring words reminded students that libraries are not just repositories of books but gateways to endless discovery.

The students then embarked on guided tours of different sections of the library, including reading halls, reference areas, the digital library, and archival collections. The library staff, known for their dedication and warmth, provided engaging explanations about cataloguing, digital databases, lending systems, and reference services.

Their patient guidance ensured that every student gained valuable insights into how a modern university library operates.

A highlight of the programme was an interactive presentation at the PGDLAN Lab, coordinated by Dr. Padmini, Mr. Panikkar, and Ms. Jasna. The session focused on reading habits, library ethics, and information literacy, encouraging students to view libraries as vibrant centers of learning and creativity. Students shared their thoughts on reading and learning, making the discussion lively and meaningful.

Throughout the visit, library professionals Mr. Ramesh babu, Mr. Mahesh, Mr. Sreenivas, Mr. Hanumanthu, Mr. Sreedhar, Mr. Naresh, Mr. Sravan, and Mr. Prasad supported the activities, guiding the students through each section with enthusiasm. Their commitment made the event both educational and enjoyable.

The two-day trip concluded on an emotional note when students presented handwritten thank-you cards to Dr.  Sivasankar Prasad and the entire library team, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the enriching experience. Their messages reflected deep appreciation and joy, marking a memorable end to the visit.

The University Library staff expressed happiness in hosting this spirited group of young learners. The visit strengthened the bond between the University and the school community, reaffirming the library’s commitment to promoting reading, learning, and knowledge sharing among future generations.

The event wrapped up with laughter, group photographs, and renewed inspiration for all to keep exploring the world of knowledge.

The students also visited the Life Science Laboratories, where Scientific Officers Smt. Leena Bashyam and Smt. Monica Kannan guided them through various experimental setups and demonstrated the functioning of scientific instruments.

Their engaging presentations and hands-on demonstrations provided the students with valuable insights into scientific concepts and helped them appreciate the advanced research facilities available at the university.
