Prof. Vijaya Bhaskar Marisetty, faculty in the School of Management Studies has been appointed as Dr. Ambedkar Chair Professor (instituted by the Ministry of Social justice and Empowerment, Government of India) at IIM Visakhapatnam on deputation for 5 years.

This role involves working on financial inclusion and fintech for empowering disadvantaged societies in India.

The Chair professorship involves:

  1. Conducting research, training programs, fieldwork, and teaching activities that are aimed at uplifting socially disadvantaged societies in India.
  2. The focus area of the chair professor and team is financial inclusion and seeing how technological innovations can bring social justice, along the lines proposed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Professor Vijaya Bhaskar Marisetty is an accomplished scholar in finance and fintech. He has extensively published in top journals and undertaken several government-funded research projects for the upliftment of rural livelihood across India. He has implemented India’s first blockchain platform for onboarding poor farmers for access to finance, inputs, and output markets. In the recent G20 Digital Alliance Summit, his work got recognition as one of the Top 100 Global Innovation Pioneers. He received several best paper awards from top international conferences and journals. Prof. Marisetty has been serving as a professor at the University of Hyderabad since 2018. Earlier, he worked as a faculty at Monash University, Australia, RMIT University Australia, IIM Bangalore and the University of Twente, Netherlands.  He is a visiting professor at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. He holds a PhD in Finance from Monash University and a Postdoctoral fellowship from the Wharton Business School and Indian School of Business.
