A recent paper titled “Spark Plasma Sintering of Silicon Carbide with Al2O3 and CaO: Densification Behavior, Phase Evolution and Mechanical Properties” by  Ummen Sabu, Bhaskar Majumdar, Bhaskar P. Saha and Dibakar Das — published in the Trans. Ind. Ceram. Soc., 77 (4), 1-7 (2018) has been selected for “Malaviya Award – 2019” by The Council of “Indian Ceramic Society”. The Award, consisting of a cash prize, along with a Citation will be presented during the Inaugural Function of the Society’s 83rd Annual Session, scheduled to be held on December 11, 2019 at “CSIR-NIIST”, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India.

Dibakar Das

Ummen Sabu was a M. Tech. student in Materials Engineering in the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST), University of Hyderabad, currently an alumni, and has carried out this research work as part of his M. Tech. thesis under the supervision of Dr. Dibakar Das, a Professor in SEST in collaboration with Dr Bhaskar Majumdar, a scientist at Defense Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) Hyderabad and Dr B P Saha, a scientist at International Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad.

“Malaviya Award”, after the name of the Bharat Ratna Pandit Madam Mohan Malaviya, is given annually, since 1974, by the Indian Ceramic Society for the best paper published on “Ceramic Science and Technology” in the “Transaction of the Indian Ceramic Society”. The paper is evaluated based on the subject content, text of the paper, industrial impact, technological impact, references, overall quality of the work and general impression.
