The Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences (SLS), University of Hyderabad (UoH) conducted a five-day workshop on Molecular Phylogenetics funded by IoE during October 10-14, 2024 organized by Dr. Siddharthan S.

The main resource persons were. Prof. Praveen Karanth of Centre for Ecological Sciences, IISc, Bangalore, Dr. Jahnavi Joshi, Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (LACONES), CSIR-CCMB, Dr. Aniruddha Dutta Roy, School of Biological Sciences ·

DAE-National Institute of Science Education and Research (NICER), Bhubaneshwar, and Mr. Chaithanya, PhD Student at Tel Aviv University. About 50 participants from all over India attended the workshop.

The topics covered were phylogenetic tree-building methods and advanced applications of phylogenetic trees, such as historical biogeography, multi-species coalescent, species delimitation, charter evolution, ancestral area reconstruction, molecular dating and molecular evolution.

Hands-on practical sessions were also conducted on all topics. The participants thoroughly benefitted, and good feedback was received.
