Ms. Ananya Dash, a fourth-year Systems Biology student in the Integrated Master’s program at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been selected for the Future Research Talent (FRT) Award 2020 by the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia.

ANU is ranked 1st in Australia and 29th in the world according to the 2020 QS World University Rankings. The Future Research Talent awards were set up in 2018 and are jointly offered by ANU College of Science, ANU College of Health and Medicine and ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science to students from India. It is a highly competitive and prestigious program that attracts the very best international students from selected partner institutions in India. Ms. Ananya was one of the students nominated by the Department of Systems and Computational Biology; and the Office of International Affairs from the University of Hyderabad for the FRT award.

Through the FRT award, Ms. Ananya will undergo undergraduate research training at the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the The Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia under Prof. Thomas Preiss during May-July, 2020. The Preiss lab works extensively in the area of RNA Biology wherein Ms.Ananya’s work will revolve around understanding the fundamental aspects of eukaryotic translation. She will be able to contribute significantly to the lab with her training in physical, biological and mathematical sciences owing to the course of the integrated sciences she is enrolled in.

In the last three years, Ms. Ananya has done her summer internships at the University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad; Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (InStem), Bangalore; and Institute for Systems Biology(ISB), Seattle, USA under Prof. Sharmistha Banerjee, Dr Ravi Muddashetty and Prof. Nitin S. Baliga respectively.
