The Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) conducted an Orientation programme for the newly admitted MA and Ph.D. students held in the Seminar Hall of the Department, was coordinated by the Mentoring Committee on August 20, 2025. The event proved to be highly engaging, creating a meaningful interaction between students and faculty members. For the first time, the department invited library staff and the University Chief Psychological Counsellor to share their expertise and highlight the support services available on campus.

Faculty members along with Mentoring Committee members interacted with first year MA and Ph.D. students. Prof. Kailash, the Head of the Department (HoD), welcomed the students while Dr.S. Shaji delivered an Orientation presentation. Dr. Aparna Devare released the Freshers’ Guidebook (prepared by the Social Media team, mostly students from second year MA). Prof. Suan Hausing, Prof. Biju B.L., Dr. Anju Helen Bara, Dr. Sneha Banerjee, Dr. Anagha Ingole and Dr. Bhim Subba interacted with the freshers. After the formal introduction by the students, a special presentation was given by the team from the IGM Library, led by the Librarian (i/c) Dr. O. Sivasankar Prasad. The presentation, which was quite informative, provided details on various tools and practices followed by the library. Further, the library representative elaborated on the functioning of the university library and guided students on how to utilize its resources effectively. Special emphasis was placed on the benefits of accessing journals, e-resources, and the online library portal. The students were also introduced to useful tools such as Grammarly, enhancing their academic writing and research work.

Dr. Hymavathi, Psychological Counselor from Health Centre addressed the students and emphasized the importance of mental well-being in navigating the academic environment in the campus. She went on to add that psychological division is well-equipped and ready to extend psychological counselling services to the stakeholders of the university, especially students. Representing the Communitas, the collective of Ph.D. students of the department, Ankur Upreti spoke and assured peer support in academic matters. The session was well appreciated by all.
