Dr. T V Narayana, freedom fighter, educationist, public servant, social activist, poet and writer from Telangana was today (25th April 2016) felicitated by the University of Hyderabad (UoH) for being awarded Padmashri by the Government of India for the year 2016.Dr. Narayana has been conferred with ‘Padma Shri’ for his distinguished service in Social Work.
Hon’ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee conferred the Padma Shri on Dr. T V Narayana at the Civil Investment Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on 28 March 2016. Padma Awards, the country’s highest civilian awards, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.
Prof. T Ramakrishna, Head, Department of Telugu felicitated Dr. Narayana at a function held in the Seminar Hall. Presenting a bouquet, shawl and memento to him, Prof. Ramakrishna said that the selfless work of Dr. Narayana should be a source of inspiration to us and especially the young students. Giving back to the society by helping the lesser privileged citizens is an honour and Dr. Narayana has shown us the way. It’s for us now to follow his example and do our bit for the Nation.
Dr. T V Narayana accepting the felicitation said that he has always been happy to be known as a teacher. He called upon the students of UoH to acquire knowledge as long as they can as it helps in making them good citizens of the country. Only hard work and sincere efforts will bear fruit and there is no short cut to success, he added. He also thanked the University of Hyderabad for the felicitation and recalled his earlier visit to the campus on 11 June 1996. Dr. Narayana has written poems both in English and Telugu and has 50 research papers to his credit. He has in his career worked as District Education Officer, Member, AP Public Service Commission, SC/ST Commission, Member AICC to name a few.
Earlier Dr. Darla Venkateswara Rao from Department of Telugu, UoH and Ms. Gogu Shyamala, writer introduced Dr. Narayana to the audience. Teachers, students, staff of the University were present on the occasion.
