With great pride and respect, we announce the appointment of Prof. Kanchan K. Malik, distinguished community media scholar and researcher, as the next Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair on Community Media at University of Hyderabad. Her appointment, supported by UNESCO New Delhi Office, has been approved by UNESCO headquarters in Paris. She takes over the Chair after the founding Chairholder, Prof. Vinod Pavarala steps down from a position he held for 14 years, consequent upon his voluntary retirement from the University.

Prof. Kanchan K. Malik
Prof. Kanchan K. Malik has been a faculty member at the Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad for nearly two decades, serving for a term as the Head of the Department. She has been a faculty fellow at the Chair since its inception and has been involved in many of its landmark initiatives, including the widely used Community Radio Continuous Improvement Toolkit, capacity-building and policy advocacy work in India and South Asia, Africa, and Europe. She has been the author/editor of much-cited books on community radio/community media and numerous, well-regarded articles in important academic journals.
More recently, she successfully anchored the Chair projects on the gender sensitivity manual for community radios and the handbook on indigenous languages and CR.
