She did her M.Phil under the supervision of Professor Ajaya Sahoo at the Centre for Study of Indian Diaspora, University of Hyderabad in 2016. Ratna Barai has recently submitted her PhD thesis in Sociology from Dr B R Ambedkar University, Delhi. Her research focuses on the dynamics of migrant and non-migrant relationships, and the formation of migrant subjectivities among the Gujarati Diaspora.
