Hyderabad, September 8, 2025- The University of Hyderabad (UoH), one of India’s foremost institutions of higher education, celebrated Teachers’ Day with immense enthusiasm, reverence, and cultural pride. Organized by the Department of Education and Education Technology under the School of Social Sciences, the event witnessed participation from faculty members, research scholars, students, and administrative staff, all coming together to honor the noble profession of teaching.

The celebration began with a ceremonial welcome and floral tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – philosopher, statesman, and former President of India – whose birth anniversary is celebrated across the country as Teachers’ Day. His enduring vision for education continues to serve as a guiding light for educators across generations.

The Chief Guest, Prof. B.J. Rao, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, UoH, delivered an inspiring address, underscoring the timeless value of the teaching community. He reminded the audience of India’s rich educational legacy, invoking the wisdom of ancient Gurus, Gurukulas, and the spiritual ethos of Bharatiya culture. “Teachers are the architects of the nation. Their knowledge and character-building shape the soul of society. Our heritage reminds us that education is not just about information, but about transformation,” he said. Prof. Rao emphasized the importance of reviving Indian values and philosophies in modern pedagogical practices.

Prof. Ramesh Ghanta, Guest of Honour and (Rtd.) Professor, School of Education, MANUU and Former Member, NCTE, highlighted the vital role of commitment, sincerity, and moral responsibility in the teaching profession. Drawing inspiration from the life and ideals of Dr. Radhakrishnan, he stated, “Quality education in India must rest on strong ethical foundations. Teachers carry the responsibility of nation-building and must lead by example with integrity and vision.”

Prof. K. Suneetha Rani, Dean, School of Social Sciences, UoH, spoke passionately about the transformative power of education in shaping a just and equitable society. “Teachers are agents of change. They cultivate minds, instill values, and empower students to question, reflect, and lead. In today’s world, educators must embrace inclusive, student-centred pedagogies that promote social justice, equality, and critical thinking,” she affirmed.
Prof. J.V. Madhusudan, Head, Department of Education and Education Technology, UoH, provided an overview of the department’s recent accomplishments, including research advancements, interdisciplinary partnerships, and community engagement initiatives. He reiterated the department’s vision of nurturing leadership in education through a commitment to excellence, innovation, and policy relevance.

The celebration was marked by the felicitation of distinguished faculty members of the Department of Education and Education Technology- Dr. T. Sumalini, Dr. Ravula Krishnaiah, Dr. A.S. Jalandharachari, Dr. R. Kohila Devi, and Dr. Ujjala Singh for their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and mentorship.
The event concluded with vibrant cultural performances by students, showcasing the diversity and creativity of young minds.
