The University of Hyderabad inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition on 29th of January 2026.
ICMR-NIN, a premier nodal public nutrition research institution in India, is committed to advancing the science of nutrition and addressing public health challenges in India and beyond. It has contributed significantly to the nutrition policies and programs that have shaped the health and well-being of Indian population, through its 100 years existence.

This synergy with the University of Hyderabad and its component schools and centres for a period of 5-years will foster partnerships to offer joint education and training programs, exchange faculty in mutual areas of work, offer Joint Ph.D programs, host and organise symposiums and conferences as well as secure grants for undertaking collaborative research. Many of the students and scholars would also secure internships and placements at ICMR-NIN.
Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar, University of Hyderabad and Dr. Bharati Kulkarni, Director, ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition signed the MoU in the presence of the Honourable Vice Chancellor of UoH, Prof. B. J. Rao. The Director, R&D Cell, Prof Samrat Sabat, Dean’s of the Schools of Medical Sciences and Engineering Sciences and Technology and faculty members and staff graced the occasion.

Lauding the partnership, Prof. B J Rao, VC of UoH, opined that it is extremely important to establish people to people connect between researchers of both the institutions and to develop the partnership further and roll out the activities as envisaged in the MoU. He wished to explore the establishment of mobile testing labs for food and nutrition closer to community.
Dr. Bharati Kulkarni, Director, ICMR-NIN, provided a chronology of the evolution and offerings that NIN has undertaken over the last 100 years and expressed extreme happiness that the relationship has the scope and scale to make an impact in the country, region and global south. She was profuse that this partnership fructified.

Prof Ramesh K Mishra, Dean, School of Medical Sciences urged that with the expertise available, there is an opportunity to explore the role of nutrition on cognition and expressed his willingness to co-host a symposium to delve deeper into this aspect.
Prof. B. R. Shamanna, Professor at the School of Medical Sciences, gave an overview of the MoU and the planned activities. Dr. B.Santosh Kumar and Dr. Sairam Challa, Scientists also participated in the event as coordinators from ICMR-NIN side.
