The University of Hyderabad has established the Interdisciplinary Research centre (IDRC) under the Institution of eminence programme to enable research, innovation, entrepreneurship and other academic activities. The building spread over 250,000 sq.ft. with a built up area of approximately 130,000 sq.ft. will house all the high-end equipment purchased under the IoE programme such as the Analytical Transmission microscope, Focused Ion beam-scanning electron microscope, micro x-ray diffractometer, x-ray photoelectron spectrometer, optical/photonic spectroscopy and microscopy platforms etc.

The IDRC aims to enhance interdisciplinary research and industry-university engagement by an executive council approved policy on Co-working spaces for Research, Entrepreneurship and Academic Activities (CREAA). This is a first of its kind initiative in the University system of the country. As part of CREAA, about 40 -50% of the lab spaces are proposed to be licensed to external users for R&D activities in areas aligned with the University’s objectives. The building is also equipped with eight auditoriums of 300 seater capacity each, which will be accessible on payment basis to internal and external users.
